Man fatally shot on east side. Indy homicides this year top 2023 total

A man was fatally shot on the east side Friday night, the 180th homicide in Indianapolis this year.
Police were sent to the 3600 block of North Dearborn Street at about 7 p.m. where gunshots were reported but didnât find anywhere there. Minutes later, two blocks away on the 3500 block of North Lasalle Street, they spotted two injured men, according to a news release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
One victim had a gunshot wound and was sent to the hospital in critical condition and the other suffered a cut, IMPD reported.
The gunshot victim died later. His name and age were being withheld until the Marion County Coronerâs Office formally identifies him and the family has been notified. Police have made no arrests.
The 180 homicides this year surpasses the total of 174 for all of 2023.

Police have so far solved 65 cases, a clearance rate of 36.6%, according to monthly data provided by IMPD. But police also this year have cleared 45 homicides from last year, according to IMPD.
