Wade announced Tuesday that a capital murder warrant has been issued for Derrick Jones, 18, a Black male for the murder of Samuel Taylor, 18. Taylor was found dead after a shootout in South Jackson on Nov. 29. Taylor is the 99th homicide investigated by JPD in 2024.

The 100th homicide occurred Monday morning at the Crown Motel on the 200 block of Boling Street in Northwest Jackson. Jeremy Easterling, 30, was found dead after being shot multiple times.

Two Black female suspects were seen leaving the motel after the murder, according to surveillance footage. They have been identified as Angela Rhodes, 34, and Arianna Expose, 25, both of whom are residents of Magee.
