PORTLAND, Ore. â A man has died early Sunday morning in a shooting in Portland's Sabin Neighborhood, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
At around 2:01 a.m., PPB responded to reports of shots fired near Northeast 20th Avenue near Prescott Street. When officers arrived they found a man dead inside of a car parked on the curbline of the street.
KGW spoke to two neighbors in the Sabin neighborhood where the man was found dead off Northeast 20th and Prescott. Both neighbors asked to remain anonymous over concerns for their safety.
One of the women woke up to someone banging her window early Sunday morning.
âI didnât see anything but I kept hearing somebody scream, 'Help,' I kept thinking I was hearing that but it was faint."
Shortly after she said seven cop cars and an ambulance arrived at the area off Northeast 20th and Prescott Street.
Later finding out from her neighbors a man was shot and killed.
âI feel disturbed about it. Itâs really scary,â she said.
Another woman living, a few feet from the scene said she peeked out of her backyard, after hearing a loud boom.
"It doesn't feel safe to know there is a gunshot in front of my house.â
She noticed two cars parked in the middle of the street, âThere was a car that just had their door open but there was also another car that I think was a jeep that was parked just right there.â
Both women said the police were there until about 6:00 a.m., closing off the block as they investigated. They were frightened this happened on a holiday weekend, when many people were out late.
âI thought about our kids if they were still out and about on the weekend night before Halloween,â the first woman explained. âThat couldâve been me coming home from a party or one of my neighbors.â
Portland police have not yet release details regarding the identity of the man. The suspect or suspects left the scene before police arrived and no immediate arrests were made.
The Portland Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is investigating the case. During the investigation, Northeast 20th Avenue was closed between Northeast Prescott and Northeast Going Street. Northeast Prescott was also closed between Northeast 19th Avenue to Northeast 21st Avenue, according to PPB.
