Embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) slammed Democrats for comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler during the presidential election.
Since Trump’s election victory, Adams has been more openly critical of Democrats and signaled that he is willing to work with the incoming Trump administration regarding mass deportations in the city. Adams’ critics have claimed the mayor’s newfound warmth for the incoming Trump administration is a part of his plan to receive a pardon from the president-elect following an indictment on alleged corruption charges.
During an interview with Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum on Wednesday, Adams claimed that one of the reasons Democrats lost the election was because they were out of touch with the concerns of everyday Americans.
We stopped speaking to people, we started speaking at people. I’d like to say it’s a cryptocurrency moment. You know, when I said I was going to invest in cryptocurrency. People laughed at me. Who’s laughing now? And when I first got elected in 2022, I was told the party is public safety. People are tired of the revolving door where people are constantly committing violent crimes and back on our streets. We ignored it.
I talked about the affordability issue. I talked about the migration and asylum seeker issue. I mean, Iowa caucus showed that that is one of the top issues, not hearing the people and you engaging in dialog. While individuals are fearful of affordability, losing their home, the future of their children. And you have these intellectual conversations and people are like saying, what the hell are you talking about? I’m hurting. And you asking, is Donald Trump Hitler or not? It’s just not talking to the real needs of people.
