MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - FOX10 News has obtained the latest homicide numbers for the City of Mobile.
According to the Mobile Police Department, there have been 32 homicides in Mobile so far this year compared to the 26 homicides at this time last year.
In fact, the Port City is on track to equal or exceed last year’s total which was 33 homicides overall.
It’s a number that doesn’t sit right with Mobile Police Chief William Jackson.
“Even one homicide is too many- they’re all unacceptable but we have to work as hard as we can to seek justice for those who have lost their lives and their families,” said Chief Jackson.
Outside the Mobile city limits, a spokesperson with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office says there have been 13 homicides in Mobile County so far this year, and some of those are Chickasaw and Semmes cases that MCSO has taken over.
MCSO has also adopted 8 cases from Prichard, but those cases vary from 2022 to 2024.
Meanwhile, in Baldwin County, a spokesperson with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office says Baldwin County has seen 11 homicides so far this year. Baldwin County had a total of 20 homicides last year.
