NEW ORLEANS â The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting involving four victims in the French Quarter on Thursday. One person was arrested and arrest warrants were issued for two additional suspects.
The shooting at Iberville and Royal streets resulted in one death, according to police. Police said " a 27-year-old female was killed and three additional adults â a 40-year-old male, 39-year-old female and 24-year-old-male â sustained injuries from gunfire," in a release.
They were taken to the hospital for treatment. On Thursday evening, Mayor LaToya Cantrell addressed the shooting in a video message.
"Our thoughts are with the victims of todayâs tragic shooting," she said in an Instagram post. "The New Orleans Police Department is actively investigating to bring those responsible to justice. Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick emphasized our commitment to public safety, working with all law enforcement agencies, and supporting our community, businesses, and visitors."
NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick told media shortly after 5 p.m. that a person of interest is now in custody as a suspect and the hunt is on for two other gunman detectives have identified through surveillance footage.
"We do have the identity of at least a second of three shooters," she said. "We have a house that we are in the process of conducting a search warrant on and we have indeed recovered at least one firearm.
"We do know who you are," she continued. "We are asking you to turn yourself in."
