WASHINGTON, D. C. - As he delivered his election-night concession speech after losing a bid for his fourth U.S. Senate term, the last Democrat Ohioans elected to statewide office pledged to continue fighting for the worker rights issues he’s championed throughout his career.
Pointing to the caged canary lapel pin he’s worn for decades to reference how the birds were used to test for air toxins in coal mines before workplace safety regulations were enacted, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown noted that safe workplaces, fair wages, eight hour work days, Social Security and child labor bans all required lengthy fights to implement.
