ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) â Two men are dead following an apparent shooting at Pisgah View Apartments in the afternoon of Monday, Dec. 16, according to the Asheville Police Department.
Fifty-two days after Tropical Storm Helene ravaged Western North Carolina, the City of Asheville restored drinkable water from the tap. Asheville was without any running water for five-11 days and then ran hyper-chlorinated non-potable water for 19 days to achieve adequate disinfection so we could take showers and wash hands.

In a open letter to public officials, Sally A Wasileski Schmeltzer, a professor at the University of North Carolina Asheville, urged further investigation and communication educating the general public about the risk of lead poisoning. Schmeltzer chairs the schoolâs chemistry department and specializes in environmental research.
