CHARLOTTE â The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating after a woman was killed Friday morning in south Charlotte.
Witnesses told Channel 9âČs Hunter SĂĄenz that two women were arguing before one shot the other.
âI saw some form of discussion, and then they calmed down, and then we heard a gunshot,â said Paula Gonzales, who was working at a food truck nearby.
Friday afternoon, CMPD identified the victim as 42-year-old Lashunda Shmicka McLendon.
âEvery one of these situations is a tragedy. Whenever an incident is resolved with a firearm, tragedy ensues. Thatâs what happened here today,â said Major Ryan Kendall.
It happened in an area that has seen violent crime recently. Four days ago, police said a 25-year-old man was shot and killed just half a mile down the road on Archdale Drive. And back in May, police responded to the same area after two people were seriously hurt in a shooting.
