LMPD: Louisville is down 4 homicides compared to last year
Homicides and shootings have dropped gradually in Louisville since 2021, according to data from the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).
The department reported 139 homicides in the city to date this year. That's down four homicides compared to 2023.
In 2014, that number was only 55âmeaning ten years ago Louisville had nearly a third of the murder rate it does today.
2021 was the deadliest year over the decade at 178 homicides.
LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey sees a long road ahead in dipping below triple digits.
"We cannot be accepting that this is our new norm," he said. "It's not okay that this number of homicides is our new norm. And people need to speak up and be very involved about changing that."
