The City of Shreveport's Department of Water and Sewerage has been chosen by the Environmental Protection Agency to join the Get the Lead Out Initiative, as announced in a Thursday news release.
GLO is part of the EPA's comprehensive effort to tackle lead exposure nationwide by removing barriers to lead pipe identification and accelerating lead service line replacement to protect public health.
The Shreveport Department of Water and Sewerage has accepted participation in the GLO Initiative for its shared commitment to empower the community to access opportunities to strengthen its water infrastructure, the news release read. The department's goal is to always provide families with clean, quality water.
The department will be mobilizing door knocking outreach and field verification efforts from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 18â22 to assist with a federally required water service line inventory. It involves a visual inspection of one's water service line to identify the material and ensure accurate community data collection for the inventory. The department's inventory efforts align with its water quality goals to provide their community with optimal water quality.
